Tribute to Friendship Exhibition 2022
This year marks the 20th anniversary of the Tribute to Friendship – a celebration of harmony between the Jewish and Chinese people through the arts. Finding commonalities and respecting differences, this exhibition explores the 1000 years history of the Jewish presence in China. Artists from the two communities will showcase their work in a multi-disciplined and interpretive overview of the historical connections.
Thanks for the tremendous support from the communities and our friends, the opening night on May 25 is full. Please come and visit the exhibition from May 26th to June 8th .
In celebration of Jewish and Asian Heritage Month, the Chinese Cultural Centre of Greater Toronto is hosting the Tribute to Friendship Exhibition. The exhibition will feature the works of over 25 Jewish and Chinese artists that explore the 1000-year historical legacy of Jewish and Chinese communities.
Jewish life in China began in 960 CE when Jewish traders from Persia settled in the Sung Dynasty Capital of Kaifeng. During World War II, Shanghai became a safe haven for tens of thousands of Jewish refugees. Jewish life continues to flourish in China to this day.
The exhibition’s Opening Night on May 25th will highlight cultural experiences across Chinese and Jewish communities. Guests can expect to see a display of Jewish-Chinese architectural treasures of Shanghai by Clifford Korman of Kirkor Architects, as well as artifacts of Jewish families in China. Guests will also be able to enjoy a series of entertainment events taking place outside in the courtyard.
It has been 20 years since the two communities co-presented the Gift of Friendship, an art collection that eventually travelled to its new home in Shanghai. Much has changed in twenty years and spectres of racism have been acutely experienced by both communities. In recognition of the fight against xenophobia, the Tribute to Friendship is supported by the Canadian Race Relations Foundation, Stronger Together, and anti-racism community collaboration. May 21 is the United Nation World Day for Cultural Diversity, Dialogue and Development, which exemplified with this Exhibition. The exhibition period will take place from May 26th to June 8th.
Special thanks to our cultural partners: DiverseCity Expo supported by Baycrest, Holy Blossom Temple, Shanghai Jewish Refugees Museum, Mimi Chinese, Food Dudes, National Post, Hecny Group, and Kirkor Architects and Planners.

特別緻謝我們的文化合作夥伴:由 Baycrest支持的 DiverseCity Expo、Holy Blossom Temple、上海猶太難民博物館、Mimi Chinese、Food Dudes、National Post、Hecny Group 和 Kirkor Architects and Planners。
