On Monday, April 8, 2024, there will be a solar eclipse. In Toronto region it is expected to be a near total solar eclipse between 2 to 4pm. To enjoy this special event, safe viewing is crucial.
Solar Eclipse Safety in Short:
Eyes: Never look directly at the sun, even during an eclipse.
Safe Viewing: Use specially designed eclipse glasses or handheld viewers with ISO 12312-2 certification. Regular sunglasses are not safe!
Inspect before Use: Check your eclipse gear for scratches or damage. Discard if compromised.
Supervise Children: Always supervise children using solar viewers.
Indirect Methods: Consider indirect viewing methods like a pinhole projector (but don’t look at the sun through the hole).
Skin Protection: Wear sunscreen, a hat and protective clothing, especially if watching for extended periods.
See a Doctor: If you experience any eye problems after the eclipse, see a doctor immediately.
