Press Release: CCC Asian Heritage Month Cultural Fair on May 28 at Yonge-Dundas Squar

Asian Heritage Month Dundas Square Cultural Festival hosted by the Chinese Cultural Centre of Greater Toronto
28MAY2023, TORONTO — On Sunday, May 28, 2023 the Chinese Cultural Centre of Greater Toronto (CCC) is hosting a day-long celebration of Asian Heritage Month in association with the Chinese Multicultural Council (CMC)(Asians in Ontario) and the Government of Ontario’s Ministry of Education at Toronto’s iconic Dundas Square, located at Yonge Street and Dundas Street. The all-ages celebration will take place from 12 Noon to 6:00 PM and will feature performances, crafts, food tasting and activities from a wide range of Asian cultures.
Performances include:
Chinese dance, traditional Chinese dragon/lion dance, Japanese Taiko drumming, martial arts demonstrations, a showcase of Tamil instruments, Bollywood dancing, Korean dance and the Philippines’ National Dance.
“This is a fantastic opportunity for all Ontarians to learn about and enjoy a wide range of Asian cultures, some of which many people know very little. We are proud to feature performances from the Lion Dance Academy of Ontario, Nagata Sachu, Wayland Li, Nathan Studio, the Canadian Chinese Orchestra, the Korean Dance Ensemble and Fiesta Filipina Dance Troupe”, announces Mar Mar Cho, President of the CMC.
This event is a day-long celebration of Asian Heritage Month. May was designated as Asian Heritage Month by the Canadian Government in May 2002. According to the 2021 census, a total of 7,013, 835 people in Canada reported as having Asian origins, which represents 19.3% of the country’s population. Asian Heritage Month is a time for all Canadians to learn about Asian culture and the contributions of Asian Canadians in Canada.
The Asian Heritage Month Dundas Square Cultural Festival is part of a project launched by the Government of Ontario’s Ministry of Education, which includes an educational website (www.cccgt.org/asianheritage) — an educational portal of information, videos and activities for Ontario school children from Grades 1 to 12.
“We are delighted to host this Asian Heritage Month Festival which brings together all Asians in Ontario to celebrate each other’s cultures and heritage while educating all Ontarians on the accomplishments and achievements of our communities over the last two centuries”, states Alan Lam, Chairman of the Chinese Cultural Centre of Greater Toronto.
The festival is open to people of all ages and is free to participate.

大多倫多中華文化中心（CCC)將與華人多元文化委員會（CMC)(安省亞裔）及安省教育部，聯合舉辦為期一天的亞裔文化月慶祝活動。活動將於中午12時至下午6:00時於市中 心央街（Yonge Street )和登打士街（Dundas Street )交界的多倫多地標位置–登打士廣場 (Dundas Square )隆重舉行。屆時將有各式各樣的亞裔文化表演，手工藝展，美食攤 位，及互動性活動，老少皆宜，免費入場。
精彩表演包括：
中國舞蹈、中國傳統舞龍/舞獅、日本太鼓、武術表演、泰米爾樂器、印度寳萊塢舞蹈、 韓國舞蹈和菲律賓民族舞。
華人多元文化委員會（CMC)主席Mar Mar Cho先生表示：亞裔文化/摩大精體，多數人知之甚少，我們希望透過這次活動，讓安省居民有機會去了解及欣賞亞洲多元文化。我們很榮幸邀請到安省舞獅學院、Nagata Sachu、Wayland Li、Nathan Studio、加拿大中樂 團、韓國舞蹈團和Fiesta Filipina舞蹈團的參予表演。
本次活動是為期一天的亞裔文化月慶祝活動。加拿大政府於2002年將5月定為亞裔文化 月。2021年的人口普查顯示，加拿大共有七百多萬亞裔血統人口（ 7,013、835人），佔 全國人口的百分之19.3。亞裔文化月讓所有加拿大人有機會了解亞裔文化，並藉此表揚亞 裔加國人對加拿大所出的貢獻。
亞裔文化月–登打士廣場文化節是安省教育部的相關教育項目其中一環，該項目更包括一個教育網站(www.cccgt.org/asianheritage) 為安省1至12年級的學童提供相關文化教育信息、視頻和活動。
