Press Conference : Big Picture Short Story Chinese Writing Contest

新聞稿 (即時發佈) Press Release (Immediate Release) 2023  4  19

Today, the “Big Picture Short Story Chinese Writing Contest” joint press conference, organized by the Chinese Cultural Centre of Greater Toronto (CCCGT), Richard Charles Lee Canada-Hong Kong Library, Mississauga Chinese Business Association, and the Canadian Cantonese Culture Association, was held at the Greater Toronto Cultural Centre.
In addition to representatives of the joint organizers, the press conference was attended by members of the judging panel, artists who provided the drawings, certified public accountants who monitored the final contest, as well as representatives from local communities, political and business groups who came to show their support.

Mr. Alan Lam, the Chairman of CCCGT, thanked all the guests for attending and hoped that this competition would promote Chinese writing and cultural exchange. Mr. Wing Man, a director of CCCGT, stated that micro-fiction has evolved into a concise literary form that is in line with the busy lives of modern people. With a theme, a complete plot, and an injection of emotions, micro-fiction can fully display the literary style of conciseness, achieve profound artistic conception, and inspire people.

Mr. Adam Keung, the initiator of the micro-fiction contest, said that ten years ago, he had organized a micro-fiction writing competition. He felt that over the years, Chinese culture has gradually declined and has been overwhelmed by multimedia technology. As someone who loves Chinese culture, he believes that it is necessary to double efforts to promote Chinese writing activities. The four institutions have joined forces, hoping to make friends through writing and promote writing culture. They look forward to the support of all sectors, hoping to pass on the torch of the “Big Picture Short Story Chinese writing Contest”!

Representatives of the other co-organizing institutions stated that as overseas Chinese organizations, they have gathered the support of various communities through their networks. They believe that it is their duty to co-organize and build a platform to promote Chinese culture. They are committed to making the “”Big Picture Short Story Chinese writing Contest”!” a success and passing on Chinese culture.

The competition overview is as follows:

Interested participants in Chinese writing from all over are welcome to select one of the eight pictures provided by the conference and write a micro-fiction of 200 words based on the image. Participants are required to submit their works via the online registration form provided by the conference by the deadline (June 15, 2023). Each participant is limited to one submission, and the registration fee is CAD$10 per application.
The conference has invited eight outstanding individuals from various fields of the Chinese community to serve as judges. The list of selected participants entering the final competition will be announced on June 29, 2023. The final round of judging and guest voting will be held at the Greater Toronto Cultural Centre on July 19, 2023, where ten winning works and the Conference Eye Award for voting will be selected on site. The conference has also invited two well-known certified public accountants to monitor the final voting of the competition. All selected works will be awarded a certificate, and the top ten winners of the final competition will each receive a prize of CAD$200. The Discerning Voter Award winner will receive a prize of CAD$200.
