Celebrate International Women’s Day
Greeting from our friends and Celebrate the IWD
As we commemorate International Women’s Day on March 8th, we embrace a moment of reflection, celebration, and action. This day serves as a powerful reminder of the remarkable contributions of women worldwide and the ongoing journey towards gender equality.
This year’s theme, “Empowering Voices, Breaking Barriers,” encapsulates the essence of our collective mission. It underscores the importance of amplifying women’s voices, recognizing their achievements, and dismantling the barriers that impede their progress.
From trailblazing leaders and innovators to grassroots activists and everyday heroes, women continue to inspire and drive positive change across all facets of society. Their resilience, courage, and determination shape our world and pave the way for a more inclusive and equitable future.
On International Women’s Day, let us reaffirm our commitment to championing gender equality in all its forms. Let us stand in solidarity with women everywhere, advocating for their rights, amplifying their voices, and creating pathways for their empowerment.
Together, we have the power to effect meaningful change and build a world where every woman and girl can thrive, unencumbered by discrimination or limitation. As we celebrate International Women’s Day, let us seize this opportunity to ignite conversations, foster collaboration, and drive progress towards a more just and inclusive society for all.
Happy International Women’s Day!

History about IWD
International Women’s Day (IWD) has a rich history spanning over a century, marked by the pursuit of gender equality, women’s rights, and social progress. Here are a few key moments and narratives in its history:
Early Beginnings: The origins of International Women’s Day can be traced back to the early 20th century. In 1908, 15,000 women marched through New York City demanding shorter hours, better pay, and voting rights. This event served as a catalyst for future movements advocating for women’s rights.
Clara Zetkin’s Proposal: In 1910, at the International Conference of Working Women in Copenhagen, Clara Zetkin, a German Marxist, proposed the idea of an International Women’s Day. Her proposal aimed to highlight the struggles of working-class women and to promote equal rights and suffrage for women worldwide. The proposal was met with unanimous approval, leading to the establishment of International Women’s Day.
First Celebration: The first International Women’s Day was observed on March 19, 1911, in Austria, Denmark, Germany, and Switzerland. More than one million men and women attended rallies campaigning for women’s rights to work, vote, and hold public office.
Suffrage Movements: Throughout the early 20th century, International Women’s Day became closely associated with suffrage movements across the globe. Women in countries like the United Kingdom, the United States, and Canada used the day to advocate for their right to vote, leading to significant victories in securing suffrage rights for women.
Russian Revolution: In 1917, International Women’s Day took on a revolutionary significance in Russia. On March 8th (February 23rd in the Julian calendar then used in Russia), women textile workers in Petrograd led a strike, demanding bread and peace, which escalated into a mass protest against the Tsarist regime. This event catalyzed the Russian Revolution and eventually led to the establishment of Soviet Russia.
United Nations Recognition: In 1977, the United Nations officially recognized March 8th as International Women’s Day, commemorating the contributions of women to global peace and development. Since then, the day has been celebrated annually worldwide, often with themes focusing on women’s empowerment, gender equality, and the elimination of discrimination.
Modern Observance: In contemporary times, International Women’s Day serves as a platform to raise awareness about issues such as gender-based violence, economic inequality, reproductive rights, and female representation in leadership roles. It is marked by various events, including marches, conferences, panel discussions, art exhibitions, and social media campaigns, aimed at promoting gender equality and celebrating the achievements of women.
Ongoing Struggles: Despite significant progress over the years, challenges persist in achieving full gender equality. International Women’s Day continues to be a crucial moment for advocacy and activism, inspiring individuals and organizations to work towards a more inclusive and equitable world for all genders.
